Princess Charlotte may be one of the youngest members of the Royal Family but, now she's nearly 11 years old, her style has begun to evolve as she follows in her mum's footsteps. The Princess of Wales and her daughter frequently wear co-ordinating outfits for major occasions (Easter, Trooping the Colour, Christmas) but it's not just similarity between them which has caught our eye, it's also the brands Princess Charlotte is now choosing to wear.
While Princess Charlotte's early years were synonymous with full-skirted floral dresses featuring puff sleeves, her looks have begun to evolve. There are a few designers which her mum, The Princess of Wales, repeatedly returns to, including Sarah Burton and Catherine Walker. Other brands, from high street labels like Zara to higher-end houses including Self Portrait, are all regulars in Kate's wardrobes - and now also her daughter's.
The Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte are often seen in matching looks but, while Kate is a key figure in the evolution of Princess Charlotte's style, there have been distinct echoes of another royal in some of her most recognisable outfits. Princess Charlotte's late grandmother, Princess Diana, is an unexpected style influence. For the Easter Matins service on Sunday (5 April) for example, Princess Charlotte wore a camel-coloured, A-line coat dress with chocolate suede detailing by Catherine Walker. Not only was she wearing a "grown up" brand often chosen by her mum, but the coat also echoed one of Princess Diana's own, a camel-coloured coat dress by Arabella Pollen which she wore in the 80s.
Princess Charlotte matched her dress with a pair of patent ballerina pumps by Tory Burch, another of Kate's go-to labels. Other examples include a custom ruffle dress created specially for Princess Charlotte by Sarah Burton (who designed Kate's wedding dress), and another by Self Portrait, a brand Kate chose for the same Easter service over the weekend.
One of Princess Charlotte's most memorable outfits was her Coronation Day look, a white dress and cape with an intricate headpiece by Alexander McQueen. Her crystal leaf tiara was a miniature version of her mum's own and it was one of the most significant public appearances of Princess Charlotte's early life.
Another key occasion where we see the royal children, is Trooping the Colour. In 2024, Princess Charlotte took to the balcony in a sailor-inspired outfit, co-ordinating with her mum's own navy and white look. However, there appears to have been further inspiration behind her outfit, as Princess Diana wore a selection of very similar ensembles back in the 1980s, and was known for wearing nautical-style pieces.
Each Christmas, we also look forward to seeing the Prince and Princess of Wales with their brood, as they attend Kate's carol service, Together at Christmas. Arriving at Westminster Abbey for the event last December, Princess Charlotte wore an almost identical look to that of her late grandmother; a navy velvet dress with white Peter Pan collar. We can't wait to see how her style continues to evolve!
