The Prince of Wales has been unusually candid about his home and family life, and particularly his feelings towards his wife, the Princess of Wales. Prince William was co-host of a one-off radio show special from the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, today (Friday 22 May). While hosting, the royal was in full of praise for his wife, the work she does and the crucial impact she has on their family unit.
In special edition of radio show Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, Prince William opened up about Kate saying, ‘She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. She’s been absolutely stunning.’ Reflecting on how Kate has coped since going through treatment and recovery from cancer, he said he was ‘so proud, very very proud. She’s been amazing. She’s been through so much in the last few years.’
Earlier this month, The Princess of Wales undertook a solo visit to Italy and the abroad trip was her first since her recovery. Prince William revealed Kate, ‘had been looking forward to the Italian trip’ and that she did a huge amount of preparation before going. The visit was part of her work and research with the Royal Foundation Centre of Early Childhood, which Kate founded.
Prince William explained how Kate ‘wanted to do lots of research. She spends God knows how much time now looking through paperwork, she’s a proper pro on early years. So, most evenings, I’m fighting to get past the bedroom and all the paperwork she’s got lined up ready to read.’
The trip was a considered a huge success, and Prince William said Kate would be ‘edging herself back in to more and more trips like that’. He added that they can ‘take quite a lot out of you’ so they needed to ‘balance that and make sure she’s okay and rested’. Overall, however, he stressed the Princess was ‘in good form’.
The Prince of Wales took part in the special edition of Heart Radio’s breakfast show to raise awareness around his work with the Isles of Scilly Hospital. He also revealed the location was somewhere he liked to visit as a child with his parents and that, still, he occasionally flies over there in a helicopter. Prince William was in the RAF and is licensed to fly.
