A floral blouse will always be a winner, whether dressed up with a skirt or used to bring some colour to a classic pair of jeans. For proof of that, look to Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. Over the weekend, as part of her work as honorary president of the charity LEAF Farming, the royal made an appearance at the Leckford Estate in Hampshire ahead of Open Farm Sunday on 7 June.
Open Farm Sunday is an annual event that lets people visit working farms. The idea is that we get to meet the people who produce our food and learn more about the importance of farming to the environment, the economy, and so much more.
Sophie got stuck in to get the farm ready for the occasion, helping to set up a hay bale maze, hanging welcome banners around the site, and cutting into a gorgeous cake decked with pansies. She did this in an impeccable outfit, comprised of classic khaki green trousers, comfortable flat shoes, a beige blazer (a regular piece the royal draws on), and an indigo blue blouse patterned with a yellow flower motif.
It’s the blouse we’ve got our eyes on. The specific one the Duchess of Edinburgh wore is the Monday Floral Blouse by Penelope Chilvers, which is a British brand with a Spanish influence that royals frequently rely on – Catherine, Princess of Wales, is a regular wearer of the label’s countryside-ready boots. The exact blouse is made entirely of cotton, making it a light, breathable piece that works brilliantly for warmer weather, and is still available in all sizes.
But we’ve found an excellent copy of the shirt, with a longer sleeve that will make it easily transition for our constantly-changing weather, for just £34.99. Style it just like Sophie with a blazer and trousers, or wear with light blue jeans and some on-trend espadrilles.
If you’d prefer short sleeves and like the ruffled collar on Sophie’s blouse, this sheer shirt by St Tropez is a fantastic option, with sweet puff sleeves for a soft look.
Or this Monsoon style has flowing ruffles and a tie detail at the neck. Plus, it’s currently on sale.
Whichever you go for, a floral blouse is an item you’ll wear again and again.
