Nothing says summer quite like Wimbledon, and nobody does tennis dressing quite like the Princess of Wales. The royal traditionally attends the famous event on multiple days every year, and presents the men's singles' trophy. This year, we expect to see her sitting in the stands once again, and are predicting what she's likely to wear based on everything we've seen so far.
The royals have certain unspoken rules when it comes to dressing for official public appearances (no very low-cut necklines or miniskirts, for instance), but each member also has their own style playbook. For instance, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh's 'uniform' includes long-sleeve, printed midi dresses, wedged espadrilles and a smart blazer or two. With Kate, however, not only does she have her own style tropes, but she has clear 'rules' she chooses to follow when it comes to Wimbledon specifically.
We can see these parameters clearly when we look back at all the outfits The Princess has worn to the event so far. By far and away her most common choice is polka dots, either as a dress or skirt, and she's even dressed her daughter, Princess Charlotte, in a miniature version for her own trip to Wimbledon.
In her earliest days at Wimbledon (she was first pictured attending in 2008 before her engagement to Prince William, then returned as a regular fixture from 2011), Kate stuck to white or cream. Since 2015, however, she's chosen much bolder colours. Whether yellow, purple, bottle green or pink, The Princess chooses block-colour looks when she doesn't opt for polka dots.
Her only exceptions being a return to neutrals on day 13 last year, and a green blazer over a white pleated skirt in 2023. That means, this year we expect the Princess of Wales to return to polka dots or, to choose a bold, colour-block look again.
Some outfits Kate has worn to Wimbledon have also been seen on her at other events, so a re-worn outfit is also a possibility.
What to read next
Whatever ensemble Kate chooses, there is one style fixture she sticks to strictly; her Wimbledon bow. Pinned to the breast of her outfit, The Princess wears a small ribbon in the green and purple colours of the event.
While Kate is a regular fixture at Wimbledon, she is not the only royal to attend. The Princess made the event a mother-daughter day out with Princess Charlotte in 2025, while her husband, Prince William and their oldest son, Prince George, also joined the following year.
Being the youngest, Prince Louis is yet to attend the tennis competition with his parents, but that's not to say that he won't come along this year, now that he's turned 8 years old.
The Championships 2016 returns to Wimbledon on Monday 29 June and will run for 14 days until Sunday 12 July.
