However, its latest spin-off, Dutton Ranch, is undeniably the best Yellowstone spin-off yet. The first series follows our favourite original couple, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), as they move across the country to Texas to start a new life.
After a record-breaking amount of viewers tuned in to watch Dutton Ranch’s first series (12.9 million!), Paramount+ has announced its refreshed second series with a surprise cast, after reports had prevously emerged that one of the main characters wouldn’t be reprising their role… So, get ready to ride – here’s what’s in store for the dramatic second series after the explosive first series finale.

What is Dutton Ranch about?
The spin-off of the much-loved Yellowstone follows everyone’s favourite power couple, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), as they leave Montana to set up a ranch in South Texas. Joining them is Beth’s adopted son, Carter Green (Finn Little), and we get to see the trio thrive as a little family unit.
However, the pursuit for a drama-free existence stops there, as they come head to head with a rival ranch headed by Beulah (Annette Bening), a territorial matriarch who likes to control everything around her. Plus, there’s Beulah’s historic ‘Will they? Won’t they?’ romantic situation with local vet Everett (Ed Harris), which she seems eager to revive.
The initial friction between the two women unfolds into a full-blow war, the discovery of a body on their new land threatens Beth and Rip’s Texan future and then all of their cattle are discovered dead. The series finale (no spoilers) is explosive – there’s a murder and an abduction, and their future hangs in the balance as they discover Beulah’s dark business secret.
What will happen in Dutton Ranch series 2?
The upcoming series picks up right where it ended, reeling from the abduction and shooting, and there’s an extra surprise: Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind), Carter’s love interest, is pregnant. Amplifying the drama, Beulah’s ex and the father of her eldest son, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba), the drug-lord Mariano Reyes, returns unexpectedly.
Despite reports Ed Harris wasn’t going to return to Dutton Ranch, we were happily surprised to see he is indeed reprising his role as Everett. As the show's calmer character, who's an ally to the Duttons, we hope his character will be front and centre in the drama of the upcoming series.

Beth and Rip back on our screens feels like stepping back into an old pair of (cowboy) boots and we enjoyed watching them navigate a new environment, when they’ve been used to the notoriety the Dutton name carries.
