Are you obsessed with that stomach-in-mouth feeling only a pacy thriller can provoke? Well, we bring you some good news. A compulsive new crime thriller, Trauma, is hitting our screens, and with Bodyguard’s Richard Madden leading the cast, and Slow Horses’ writer Geoff Bussetil behind it – it’s set to be your next TV obsession.
Imagine the worst shift you’ve ever had at work and multiply it by 100 – the medical thriller takes us inside a busy London hospital where Jim Marchant (Richard Madden), a former Royal Marines medic, works as an emergency-room doctor. But while the Prime Minister is having surgery, Jim faces a very different kind of crisis.
With production underway, here’s everything you need to know about Trauma, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.
What is Trauma about?
The series will kick off dramatically, when terrorists take over a busy London hospital while the Prime Minister is undergoing surgery. Now, a place designed to save lives turns into a deadly battle of strategy, nerve and survival.
The pulse-racing ride is a collision of thriller royalty, firstly, it’s written by Geoff Bussetil, who has also written for the upcoming seventh series of the spy drama Slow Horses. Meanwhile, Richard Madden has already proven his credentials as an on-screen protector as Police Sergeant David Budd (as pictured above) – the British Army Veteran turned principal protection officer (PPO) for controversial politician Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) in the acclaimed BBC drama Bodyguard.

What other crime thrillers can I watch now?
For a gripping legal thriller, we’d point you towards The Killing Kind, based on the book by Jane Casey, the series follows an impressive lawyer, Ingrid Lewis (Emma Appleton), whose life is upended when an ex-client turned lover and stalker returns, and her best friend is murdered in a hit-and-run, triggering a pacy cat-and-mouse chase. The Killing Kind is available to watch now on ITVX. For an equally thrilling watch, we’d recommend The Sounds, a crime drama that follows Canadian married couple Tom (Matt Whelan) and Maggie (Rachelle Lefevre), who relocate to a small town in New Zealand to start a sustainable salmon farm. But when Tom vanishes, their lives are torn apart, with Maggie forced to piece together what happened. The Sounds is available to watch now on Prime Video via Acorn TV.
