As we (finally, hopefully) approach the end of the multiple of heatwaves across much of the country, we’re looking forward to dressing for the new season.
One trend that’s set to be big in autumn? All things lace. We’ve seen the texture creeping into the high street across the summer, appearing as the trim on T-shirts, on shirts coupled with frills and most recently in the form of cardigans. As we head towards September, you can expect to see lace everywhere.
The easiest way to wear it? In the form of a lace blouse. This is the ideal culmination of trend-led and eternally stylish, making it a staple that can be worn season after season – whether used to dress up a pair of jeans or as the centre of a more formal ensemble.
Demonstrating this to perfection is Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The Royal, along with her husband Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, and Lady Louise’s boyfriend, Felix da Silva-Clamp, paid a visit to the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh to watch a performance of the Grammy-nominated musical Inala.
After watching the production, the family met with the cast and crew, who shared a photo recap of the interaction. On Instagram, the show's team wrote: ‘It was incredibly special to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, a full-circle moment 12 years after our world premiere here in Edinburgh, and after performing for the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2014 and Prince Harry in 2019, we’re now sharing Inala with another generation of the Royal Family.'
In those photos we couldn’t help but notice Sophie’s gorgeous white lace blouse, which she paired with a favourite deep blue skirt. That lace blouse is by sustainable fashion brand Aspiga, and is still available to buy for just £95.
And it’s an excellent buy. The elevated blouse has a pretty stand-up collar that adds polish to any look, plus statement fluted cuffs on the sleeves. Lace can often feel tricky to wear thanks to its sheerness, but this shirt avoids the issue with a white cotton lining on the bodice. Easy!
