In case you missed it, lace is having a real moment this autumn/winter – particularly in the form of buttoned-up tops. After GH's fashion team spotted Next's excellent lace cardigan, Cat Deeley has hopped on the trend with her own lacy piece.
Hosting This Morning this week, Cat Deeley followed up a lovely plum silk dress with an ensemble in another colour that's huge this season: shades of brown. The presenter ticked off multiple trends in one go in a pair of smart chocolate brown trousers from Reiss, heels from River Island and a lace button-up blouse in a caramel tone.
There are many style pointers to be taken here. For one, if you take colour inspiration from your preferred sweet treats, you're on to a winner. Cat's gone for a chocolate and caramel brownie look here, and any variations of that theme will do the trick. Perhaps you're more of a tiramisu dresser (layers of beige, cream, and deep brown) or prefer sticky toffee pudding (gingery knits are lovely).
Second, that lace top trend we mentioned is a go. Cat's specific one is by Boden, and it's great for multiple reasons. First, the colour – a sort of ginger, caramel, Lotus Biscoff shade. We love the scalloped hem and cuffs, which add interest, and the beautiful floral detailing on the lace.
Boden calls the blouse a 'top' but, because it's a button-up, you could easily wear it open, as a cardigan, over a T-shirt or, as the brand intended, buttoned all the way up. At £89, it'll be a great hero piece for your autumn wardrobe, worn to dress up jeans or as a lightweight layer over a dress for the evening.
If you don't fancy going for Cat's pudding-esque colour palette, worry not – Boden also has the top in warm ivory or black.
Eagle-eyed readers will also spot that Cat has completed her outfit with a favourite accessory: a slim belt. The star recently shared a video tour of her extensive belt collection, noting that she loves a belt to make her look 'really put together'.
The presenter wrote: 'Let’s talk about it… BELTS!! One of my favourite accessories to instantly amp up an outfit!' Cat shared that many of her belts are secondhand (a great shout. Check the men's section in charity shops, too – you can always punch in extra holes if needed), but we've noticed one belt brand she's been particularly fond of recently is Sézane. Well worth checking out.
Another fan of belts? Nigella Lawson, whose Great British Bake Off wardrobe is proving one rule: add a belt to make every outfit flattering.
