It’s official: Richard E. Grant is the worst Traitor in Celebrity Traitors history. Yes, he’s brought the laughs, the chaos and quite possibly the jaw-dropping TV moment of the century, but let’s get our facts straight: Richard E. Grant does not know how to play the game. First, he tells his fellow contestants that he is, in fact, a Traitor and now? He’s only gone and made another blunder that’s seemingly confirmed his fate on the show.

In an interview on Heart Radio, the actor opened up about the rather large error he made on the show and appeared to make another one in the process. “I’ve got voodoo dolls of the lot of them now,” Richard told presenters Emma Bunton and Jason King in the interview that we – and many other eagle-eyed fans - believe has given the game away. Here’s what we know…

What was Richard E. Grant’s mistake on The Celebrity Traitors?

Let’s start by catching up on the action. Almost as soon as The Celebrity Traitors kicked off with episode one, we knew that Richard wanted to be a Traitor. He told the camera, he told Claudia Winkleman and he even told every single one of his fellow contestants. So, when Claudia gave him the ‘tap’ and confirmed he would indeed be a Traitor, he was more than a little excited. Too excited, to put it bluntly.

When Joe Lycett then began quizzing his fellow contestants about their identities and proceeded to ask Richard whether he’s a Faithful or a Traitor, the actor gave a bizarre response. “I'm a Traitor”, he nonchalantly replied. The room was somewhat stunned and Richard appeared to immediately regret his admission.

In an attempt to play down the blunder, he said, “What’s the point in being in the game if you’re not one?”. The only person who was remotely convinced was Jerry Hall - Richard's longtime friend and neighbour - but it’s safe to say that two episodes in, those in camp ‘Richard isn’t a Traitor’ are, well, diminishing by the second.

If you’re as obsessed with The Celebrity Traitors as we are, you’ll have noticed that Richard has been doing a fair bit of talking in the aftermath of the show’s launch. It didn’t, therefore, take him long to make another blunder when he found himself talking to Emma Bunton and Jason King on Heart Radio.

What to read next

“I thought that when Joe Lycett asked me, ‘Are you a Traitor?’ and I said, ‘Yes, I’m a Traitor’, I didn’t for a nanosecond think that he would actually believe it. How do you troll yourself back from that? And apparently he asked me a second time. I have no recollection of this. And I said, ‘Yes, I am!’”, he said.

“I thought it was going to be like Spartacus, where somebody would say, ‘I’m a Traitor, you’re a Traitor’. No such support. I’ve got voodoo dolls of the lot of them now. Pinned into my wall.”

Fans were, naturally, quick to share their thoughts in the comments section when the interview was posted on Instagram. “This interview cements the fact that he’ll be banished” said one, while another added: “And he is out; this is what I understand from this”. With Richard having already made one monumental blunder, it seemed he’d just made another.

It wasn’t his only blunder since either. Richard also appeared on Classic FM and was given the job of announcing the winner of a prize. Sharing the news earlier than intended, he said live on air: “I have a tendency to get to the punchline too quickly sometimes.” Clearly, the actor is taking the approach of owning his mistake and seemingly letting us all know he’s paid the price for it in the process!

If you want our honest answer, our money’s on Richard leaving the castle on Thursday night. In episode 2, several of the contestants appeared to confirm that their suspicions were too big to simply let Richard off the hook and not vote him out, including Julie Hesmondalgh, Miranda Hart and Romesh Ranganathan. And let’s face it, if they don’t vote him out, they will be, as Julie said at the Round Table, the most idiotic group of Faithfuls in the world. Sorry, Richard!

When is the next episode of The Celebrity Traitors on?

The next episode of The Celebrity Traitors (episode 3) will air on Thursday 8th October at 8pm on BBC One. It will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer. The episode will be an hour long.
