Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh has been in Antigua and Barbuda this week, and attended a global summit for eye heart, a cause close to her heart, on Monday (3 November). For the occasion, the Duchess turned to a favourite style of hers - the midi dress.
For her busy day of engagements, which included delivering an important speech, Sophie wore a denim midi dress, with puff sleeves and a double belt around the waist. Sophie is a global ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness so, while in Antigua, she spent Tuesday morning at an eye clinic in St John's. In the afternoon, she joined the Global Summit for Eye Health at John E. St. Luce Conference Centre, which is where she gave her address.
Sophie's exact dress is by a favourite designer of hers, Gabriela Hearst. While it appears to be made of denim, it's actually a cotton and linen mix which makes it a lighter choice for the warmer Caribbean weather. Back in the UK, however, denim - being a heavier, more robust fabric - is ideal for the blustery days of winter here. The material also doesn't cling, while the weight of it means skirts hang well and keeps their shape, making a denim a flattering choice for almost everyone.
Sophie wears the 'Patricia Pleated Belted Cotton-And-Linen Midi Dress' which is available to buy online for £2,760. If it's real denim you're after (at a more affordable price), the good news is that we've found a strikingly similar A-line midi dress to Sophie's, complete with the puff sleeve detailing. Even better, it's currently on sale for 50% off. Add a belt, and it would be hard to tell the difference!
The Duchess of Edinburgh left Antigua for the UK following the summit, and will return to engagements here later this month. On the 25 November, she will attend the annual Duchess of Edinburgh Competition which takes place between different regiments of the armed forces.
As well as being patron to a number of charities and organisations, the Duchess, like many members of the Royal Family, has honorary military roles. These include being Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Colonel, Colonel-in-Chief and Honorary Air Commodore of the various regiments taking part in the competition, which will take place at RAF Wittering in Peterborough.
