I’m calling it now: this is the best high-street skirt I’ve seen all season. For me, a capsule wardrobe isn’t just about great basics - you need a few standout pieces to transform the plain essentials, too. That’s exactly what this Zara midi does, and it’s so chic, for a second I almost thought it was designer.
This summer, prints have been everywhere, from charming polka dots to statement animal print. Here, though, Zara has returned to an all time timeless: stripes. A soft palette of baby blue, ecru and mocha works together to create a refreshing touch that wouldn't look out of place worn to the beach.
The vertical stripes create the illusion of a longer silhouette. As someone who stands at a (mere) 5’3”, I’ll happily take all the extra inches I can get.
But what makes this skirt look so expensive? It’s all in the details, obviously. Intricate floral motifs, both embroidered and cutwork, lend the skirt a romantic touch à la Chloé. Meanwhile, delicate bands of lace add another layer of texture, contrasting with the vertical stripes for a feminine edge.
On paper, all these elements could easily feel overwhelming. But thanks to the muted hues, they work together in harmony. The more you look, the better it gets.
The silhouette is incredibly flattering, too. It sits just below the waist before flaring out into a swishy, A line shape. Falling to a midi length, it hits that sartorial sweet spot - never too short, but never in danger of dragging on the ground either.
Since the skirt is such a focal point on its own, styling becomes a breeze. If I wanted to keep things pared back, I’d pair it with a simple cami, strappy sandals and slimline sunnies. Or, if you want to go all in, there’s a matching top, too. You can’t really go wrong with a co-ord.
No one will believe you when you say this skirt only cost you £46.
