When temperatures rise, either in the UK or wherever we head on holiday, getting dressed can be a challenge. We just want speedy, easy outfits that we can chuck on without any faff or forethought – because who fancies rummaging around in wardrobes and suitcases trying on multiple looks while trying to remain in the airflow of the fan?
A matching shirt and shorts set is an ideal solution. Get the right one and you’ll be able to effortlessly mix and match the individual pieces, then wear together for an instantly stylish look.
Cat Deeley serves as great inspiration for this. On today’s episode of This Morning, the presenter navigated the heat in a pure linen co-ord by the French brand Sézane, in a neutral biscuit shade. Both the shirt and the shorts are still in stock and available for £125 and £110, respectively. Cat completed her ensemble with a pair of neutral heels from Dune.
Sézane is a firm favourite for Cat Deeley’s This Morning wardrobe. Last week she wore a stunning poppy-print sundress from the French brand, and has previously opted for Sézane trousers and accessories.
If you want to get the look, the good news is that the high street is selling a wide range of shirt and short sets to fit every style. Next has a lovely striped set for £58, and we've picked out some more of our current favourites ahead.
Let's start with a linen set from Whistles, with a neutral dark brown shade with the same kind of feel as Cat Deeley's biscuit-toned shirt and shorts. This Whistles set has longer Bermuda shorts, which are a big trend this season and flattering on absolutely everyone. Plus, the longer length makes them work for the office, too. The full set will cost you £188; the shirt is £99 while the shorts are £89.
If you're ready for something brighter, Marks & Spencer has a bargain (just £46 in total) set ideal for your holiday packing list in this season's trendiest colour; a cobalt blue.
Or M&S's gingham set, available for £90 all in all and with matching trousers to swap out the shorts for when it inevitably gets chilly again, is another bold option.
Next has a linen shirt and shorts set in four different colourways and for a total of £74. We like it best in a sunny yellow shade.
Next also has a lovely co-ord in a cream crochet with floral detailing.
Want to tick off the polka dot trend while you're at it? Nobody's Child's polka dot shorts for £59 and tailored top for £69 are a winning combination.
And finally, these £60 linen shorts and the £65 matching shirt from Hush make a great choice if you prefer darker colours. Plus, pockets!
