We’ve hit biscuit week of the 17th season of The Great British Bake Off; or the second episode of the first season with Nigella Lawson as a judge. Last week Nigella kicked off the show on a strong note, delivering deeply sensual commentary about cakes and wearing an excellent jumpsuit (that speedily sold out).
We’ll have to wait and see if this week’s episode has as many disasters as last Tuesday’s, and if Nigella will load in any more innuendo to proceedings, but what we can confirm before the episode airs is that the cook continues to deliver in the style stakes. For the second episode, Nigella has opted for two pieces of a three-piece suit, along with classic jeans.
It’s a great look – and one that works for everyone. Swapping your usual T-shirt for a blazer and matching waistcoat is a cheat code to smartening up jeans with minimal effort – and if you go for a cheery colour like Nigella has, the effect is so uplifting.
The specific blazer and waistcoat Nigella is wearing is from Boden. In a lightweight linen, the blazer is a great buy – you can pair it with the waistcoat as Nigella has, but it looks equally great over a T-shirt or as a final layer to a dress. The good news: unlike Nigella’s jumpsuit, the blazer is still in stock – and currently on sale. You can pick it up from Boden directly for £132.30 or if you go via Next, the blazer is currently just £90.
Not keen on turquoise? Or not a fan of linen? Worry not. Boden has the same cut of blazer in a bunch of different colours and fabrics. The dark crimson cord is a very on-trend option, while the maroon and pink wool check makes a statement.
Whichever you go for, the blazer is a smart buy – it’s available in petite and regular sizes, has a flattering tailored cut, plus there are pockets.
And, as we know, a blazer is a truly timeless staple. It’s a jacket that will never go out of style and can be worn in endless ways. It’s a piece loved by the Royals as well as celebs like Nigella – Catherine, Princess of Wales, regularly dons a blazer (her most recent one had a snazzy heritage check), as does Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh – though she likes a classic neutral tone.
