The U.S. Open wrapped up this past weekend, and a number of high-profile celebs came to watch. One of them was Dakota Johnson, one of our style inspos, and we immediately took notice of her outfit. While she might’ve skipped a New York fashion show for the finals, Dakota stepped out in a timeless wardrobe staple I'm already planning to recreate this fall.
Autumn is a fun season for fashion, because that’s when you can really play with the art of layering. And while we’re in this in-between weather, it’s much more comfortable to start with a base and wear sweaters that you can take on and off throughout the day.
Take Dakota’s tank, for example. She wore a drapey, spaghetti-strap slip shirt to the tournament—and its lacy details and scalloped trim gave it a romantic, vintage feel.
It reminded me of something I’d wear in the early 2000s, so I had to look online to find something similar.
Zara has a great copycat: It’s pretty much identical in color, plus it has that similar shiny satin look, relaxed silhouette, and a lace trim up top.
In terms of how to style it, let’s take notes from Dakota. She wore fitted blue jeans and black Chelsea boots, and she brought a faded flannel for layering. She also accessorized and wore layered statement necklaces that reminded me of the dopamine necklace trend.
If you’re like me and need to know all of your options before making a similar purchase, I’ve found a few others from Amazon, Nordstrom, Abercrombie, and American Eagle.
Dakota’s appearance at the U.S. Open comes just a few days after she attended the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner. She was there alongside other big names like Salma Hayek Pinault, Pamela Anderson, and Simone Biles. The foundation supports four non-profit organizations that all work towards ending violence against women and children.
The high-profile event auctioned off one-of-a-kind items from luxury brands like Gucci and Bottega Veneta, and over $5 million was raised. The night wrapped up with a performance by Rita Ora and a DJ set led by Paris Hilton. If you ask me, it sounds like a good time for a great cause.
